The world pretty much sucks.

Ian,

I struggle with how to balance protecting you from the world and educating you about it.  A few months ago a bunch of guys did something terrible to this one girl.  It is awful what they did, but more than that, a lot of other guys stood around and let it happen.  Son, I don’t want you to be the guy that does something terrible or the guy that stands around and lets it happen.  Not on your watch, not when you can do something about it.

See, the world is not our home, we are visitors here.  As visitors we should act like differently.

I love you.

Dad

Let’s read together

Son,

I never read growing up.  I think one of the reasons was that I never had anything good to read, but another was that I didn’t think I was good at it.  That is something you should know.  If you think you can do something, you can.  OK, maybe not anything, but definitely more than you think you can.

So, I would love to read with you.  I love reading now and wish I had done more of it when I was younger.

Love you,

Dad

If i could give you one piece of advice…

Stretch.

Ok, if I could only give you one piece of advice it wouldn’t be that, but I will say that stretching is important.  I say this because growing up I didn’t and I hurt now because of it.  Also, stay hydrated!  I also never drank water and was consistently dehydrated.

This may be difficult advice to take, but I will try to help you along the way.

Love you,

Dad
